Master Your LinkedIn Profile: Your Personal Brand
Think practically for a moment. You apply for a job, and what is the very first thing HR does after looking at your CV? In 99% of cases, they will search your name on LinkedIn.
This is your digital first impression. And you only get one shot to make it right.
The Goal: Attract the right opportunities, the right people, and meaningful conversations.
The Reality: Most profiles out there are incomplete, generic, and completely invisible to recruiters.
So, how do you break out of this invisible zone? Here are 4 practical steps to optimize your profile today:
1. Strong Headline: Be specific on value, not just your title
Most people simply write "Marketing Executive" or "Student at XYZ University" in their headline. This is a huge mistake!
Instead of stating your position, tell people what you do for them.
Instead of "Marketing Executive", try writing: "I help FMCG brands grow through data-driven campaigns."
Pro Tip: If your headline is just your job title, you are missing a massive opportunity to make profile visitors curious.
2. Clear About Section: Write like a human, not a robot
What does your profile say about you within the first 5 seconds of a visit?
When people see a bio packed with corporate jargon (e.g., "highly motivated, detail-oriented individual"), they instantly scroll past. No one wants to connect with a robot.
Always write your About section in the first person. Keep the tone conversational. Talk about your career journey, your vision, and your passions. Finally, make sure to include a clear Call to Action (CTA) at the end. For example: "Open to new B2B growth opportunities, let's connect over a virtual coffee."
Simple Rule: If you cannot read what you wrote naturally out loud, rewrite it.
3. Featured Section: Show, Don't Just Tell (Bonus Tip!)
Your headline and About section tell people your story, but where is the proof?
This is where the Featured section comes in. Use it to visually pin your best projects, portfolio links, media features, or awards. For example, I use mine to showcase my ISCEA Global Case Competition achievements and my TEDx volunteering work. Doing this instantly boosts your credibility.
4. Consistent Activity: Hiding keeps you forgotten
If you set everything up perfectly but remain completely inactive on LinkedIn, it won't help you.
Try to post about an industry-related topic at least once a week. Leave valuable comments on posts made by your target audience or Key Decision Makers (KDMs). Over time, this consistency will build your visibility and establish trust.
Do you know what the result will be? You won't have to chase every single opportunity yourself; recruiters and collaborators will start sending inbound messages to you!
Ready to build your profile?
The difference between a great LinkedIn profile and a generic one dictates whether your career will rapidly grow or stay stuck in one place.
